BVB IA Waterloo stepped up preparations for the upcoming League 1 Canada season at the team’s Rim Park base on Saturday with a soccer trial organized for footballers drawn from different locations across the country.

The players numbering 24 converged on the club’s indoor soccer pitch as they attempted to convince the team’s eagle-eyed technical crew led by the award-winning coach Michael Marcoccia through their soccer artistry.

After the exercise, coach Marcoccia disclosed that the quality he saw on the pitch is encouraging as he noted that majority of the football players came from institutions across Canada.

“I think the quality was fairly good especially for a trial like this. Often you have players coming in from different clubs, different levels so the quality can be low at times but it wasn’t today. I thought the quality was fairly good based on where we are and most of the players today are college and university players who are already playing at a fairly decent level.”

The former technical director and head coach of Electric City Football Club further hinted that there might not be another trial of this magnitude at the club before the commencement of the new season.

“There won’t be another trial like this. At this point in time, the squad will be selected through recruitment and invitation.”

The try out was also attended by two  club officials Vivian Kourvetaris and  Maja Lukambo  who ensured administrative rough edges were sharpened.

League 1 Canada is a professional-amateur soccer competition occupying the third tier of the country’s domestic league system. The pro-am league has four arms: League 1 Alberta, League 1 British Columbia, League 1 Ontario and Ligue 1 Quebec.
